Introduction

What can you use algae for? How about health & beauty products? Algae can be used in a variety of products from skin to hair care. The chemical make-up of algae includes fats and vitamins which are especially good for skin. This makes algae in the form of health and beauty products very beneficial for a number of purposes. From healthier skin to carbon sequestration, using algae as a soap ingredient can keep your body healthy and the planet happy.

How it Works

Algae, specifically Spirulina and Chlorella Vulgaris, are aquatic plants that contain a high concentration of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), these are some of the healthiest OMEGA-3 acids for human consumption. Additionally, algae contain reasonable levels of vitamin C, iron, vitamin A, riboflavin, and many other nutrients which are healthy for both skin and hair.

How does algae get all of these nutrients? Well, much like other plants, when algae grows it absorbs nutrients from its environment. As the algal cells grow in size and multiply using a combination of CO2 and photosynthesis these vitamins increase in content within algal cells.
